Athletically, Carey Rockland was a competitive swimmer for 10 years. Having grown up in Washington, D.C., she trained with Curl Burke Swim Team, training team for several Olympians and World Record holders. She had the opportunity to see the focus and intensity requisite for achievement on that level. She benefited from early lessons in mental toughness garnered from sharing a pool with those athletes. As an adult, she came into personal training through body building, and thereby experienced live action muscular anatomy education. Over time, she moved into martial arts practice, and discovered a deep appreciation for the movement mechanics of the human body, and the full athleticism required for participation. She studied at Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu between 2004-2008, and had the unique experience of training in the company of professional mixed martial artists. She continues her martial arts practice currently by transferring her focus into the realm of mixed martial arts.
